Recording Pod FAQ

Because you really want to record your own take of Franco Cozzo's 'Grand Sale'

What's inside?

The recording pod features a four microphone setup for audio recording. The Rode PodMic is a broadcast quality microphone that is best suited for voice recording. The mixing console comes in the form of the Rodecaster Pro, an easy to use console built specifically for podcasting and voice recording.

Whilst the Rodecaster Pro can be used without a computer, the pod also has a Mac mini for recording and basic editing, as well as screen casting. Adobe CC and Audacity are preinstalled.

How can I book the recording pod?

Currently we allow for bookings through an exchange calendar (!DLH-Recording-Pod-181-W313B). We are currently only opening bookings to School of Biomedical Sciences academic staff for the time being, to assess demand. Please invite the room to all bookings to make sure it is booked correctly.

If you are a School academic and do not have access to the calendar, please let us know.

Please try and keep bookings to a max of two hours, and please refrain from doing heavy editing inside the pod. If you require a computer to edit your recording, please use one of the Pantheon rigs in W313A (the software suites are identical).

Please note that there is a twenty minute window to begin your booking. In peak periods, we may cancel your booking if you are later than twenty minutes.

Can I bring my own device?

You can. The Rodecaster is plug and play with most laptops. Simply swap out the USB cable and plug in your computer. All we ask is that when you finish your session that you plug the Mac Mini USB cable in. Please note that we are unable to support BYOD users outside of the equipment inside the Pod (i.e. no support for software and driver issues). If you do encounter problems, please shift your production over to the Mac Mini.
